MATTERS OF THE HEART
Chapter 1
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (II
Chronicles 7:14)
1 I exhort
therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all
that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable
life
in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in
the sight of God our Saviour;
4
Who will
have all
men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of
the truth. (I Timothy 2:1-2)
Everybody seems to have their own
opinions and ideas about this country we call the United States of America, land of
the free, and home of the brave. Some of
us, if we would be honest, in our own minds feel that when it comes to running
this country and getting it back on track, you personally can show everyone a
thing or two. We have the conservatives,
independents, individual parties, liberals, undecided, and the don’t want to be
bothered with all this election stuff folks!
With all of these thoughts and ideas going around, has anyone stopped
long enough to ask God who His choice is?
Saints, aren’t we admonished in Chapter 1 of James verse 5 to ask God
for His wisdom if we lack wisdom?
Certainly during a time such as this, we need God’s wisdom. God administers authority as He wills. Doesn’t
it just make sense to seek Him regarding such important and crucial matters? You see, who ever is elected by who we passionately
call “the American people”, has already been decided by God. We really have
nothing to do with it. November 4, 2008 is a time
in history for us, but not for God. He
does not operate by or is He limited by time, but operates in Eternity. Always
has, and always will. While we are arguing and having our own private debates with
each other about who we think is the best person, God already decided in
Eternity past. This is new for us, but not new to Him who is Sovereign. He is
never caught off guard or surprised about anything.
As believers, we must always find
ourselves in a place of desiring God’s perfect will. Sure, we can get by with His permissive will,
but we miss the full benefit of God’s blessings when we insist on settling for
less than what God really has for us.
This election shouldn’t be about race, creed, color, or ethnic
background, because God didn’t create the world based on race, creed, color, or
ethnic backgrounds. This election shouldn’t
be about gender, because God has already made the perfect balance regarding
gender, male and female. The Giver of
physical and Eternal Life has already set the standard. This election shouldn’t be about the
longevity of governmental experience and policies, because God alone is the
only one qualified to speak about the world events and policies from its
beginning. Ask Job about his pre/mid/and post whirlwind experience in chapters
37 through 42. The earth, sun, moon, stars, fowl of the air, land animals and
water creatures, trees, mountains, seas, and oceans, all bear record. The testimonies of these have more experience
than man will ever have about world events and its history. It’s going to take
a lot more than man’s experience to get us through these tough times. It is quite obvious, that with all that is
going on in the world at this point and time in our history, the eminent return
of Christ is swiftly approaching. Being
fully confident and sure about where you will be spend eternity, is much more
important than anything that can happen down here. Let’s redeem the time that
we have, watch and pray, and be about our Father’s business, the “Great
Commission” as Christ was. Ask Him to
give us a heart of prayer for His choice, for love and compassion towards one
another, line our will up along side His, and stand on the promises of His
word. When it’s all said and done, whoever
is elected, God will still be in control and we will have His best for us
during this particular season in our history. He promised that He would never
leave us or forsake us. Let’s delight
ourselves in the truth of God’s Word.
Ps
33:10-12
10The LORD
bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the
people of none effect. 11The counsel of the LORD standeth
for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the
nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own
inheritance.
Ps
75:6-7
6 For promotion
cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7
But
God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
Romans 13 1-8 Let every soul be
subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power
but of God: the
powers
that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power
resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist
shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good
works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power?
do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the
minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid;
for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger
to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be
subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience
sake.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also:
for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues:
tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom
fear; honour to whom honour.
8 Owe
no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth
another hath fulfilled the law.
Personal Note:
Perhaps you are still undecided about a candidate and all
the various propositions that are out there.
You have pretty much said, “Whatever happens, happens, I’ll just live
with it.” That’s fine, but don’t remain undecided
about your Eternal Security. God
proposed a perfect plan for your life in the only candidate that is fully
qualified to meet every need you have.
So much so, that He died, was buried, and on the third day, according to
the scriptures rose from the grave with all power of heaven and earth in his
hands. It won’t really make a difference
who the president is or what proposition is passed or not when you leave this earth,
but if you leave with Jesus,
it will make all the difference in the world.
